NOTICE OF POSSIBLE REVIEW OF YOUR CONVICTION

IF THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT FALSELY CLAIMED YOU CONFESSED TO A CRIME OR YOU BELIEVE YOU WERE COERCED INTO CONFESSING, YOU MAY BE ENTITLED TO HAVE YOUR CONVICTION REVIEWED BY THE COOK COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

Last October, Cook County reached a settlement with the Englewood Four, who were exonerated after spending 16 years wrongfully incarcerated primarily on the basis of false confessions coerced by certain Chicago Police Department detectives. As a result of that case, a Lawyers’ Committee has been formed to help identify other cases where false confessions were obtained as a result of misconduct by those same CPD detectives. The Lawyers’ Committee’s mission is to provide notice to affected individuals and to facilitate review of their cases by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

You may be eligible to have your conviction reviewed if you satisfy ALL THREE of the following factors:

1. If you were convicted either by trial or by plea of any homicide, including manslaughter, or any sexual assault/sexual abuse crime;

2. The police claimed you confessed to the crime and/or you believe you were coerced into confessing to the crime; AND

3. One of the following detectives was involved in the criminal investigation of that crime:

A. KENNETH BOUDREAU (Badge No: 852, 4796, 20435)
B. RICHARD PALADINO (Badge No: 9860, 20245)
C. JAMES CASSIDY (Badge No: 20207)
D. THOMAS COUGHLIN (Badge No: 4331, 20983)
E. WILLIAM FOLEY (Badge No: 20450)
F. FRANK VALADEZ (Badge No: 484, 769, 2108, 21008, 8209)
G. PAT MCCAFFERTY (Badge No: 20173, 20014, 5116)
