The Corruption of Ronald Watts

CPD Officer Ronald Watts and his tactical team terrorized residents of the Ida B. Wells housing community for a decade.

On September 12, 2017, Exoneration Project attorney Joshua Tepfer filed a “CONSOLIDATED PETITION FOR RELIEF FROM JUDGEMENT AND TO VACATE CONVICTIONS PURSUANT TO 735 ILCS 5/2-1401” in Cook County Criminal Court. The Petition seeks to overturn 18 wrongful convictions of 15 victims of the corrupt Chicago Police Department tactical team that terrorized the Ida B. Wells housing projects in Chicago for over a decade. That team was led by Sgt. Ronald Watts. For the full story, you can read our petition here, as well as view all of the exhibits demonstrating Watts’ team’s criminal enterprise and the corruption that covered it up.

Those victims deserve justice, and Chicagoans deserve to know why corrupt officers like Watts thrive in our police department. Visit our website to learn more about our petition for mass exoneration for the fifteen+ victims we know about now: #freethe15
