John Martinez has now become the 38th person exonerated of false homicide charges put together by Detective Guevara. Mr. Martinez was wrongfully convicted in a 1998 murder as a result of Guevara’s pattern and practice of engaging in investigative misconduct, including influencing eyewitness identifications and testimonies. After a lengthy legal battle, Mr. Martinez’s conviction was vacated in January and his case was dismissed yesterday.
He is pictured here with his children and grandchildren, who, along with his parents, were present at all of his court hearings. Welcome home John!
